Wegener Corporation, a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced the operation of live video broadcasts on a VSAT network from ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq:VSAT), showing compatibility of WEGENER’s video overlay solution for VSAT networks. VSAT networks provide bandwidth efficient solutions for distributing interactive IP data between thousands of data centers, retail locations, corporate LANS, schools, the Internet, and home offices. Using standard ViaSat LinkStar® uplink and downlink equipment WEGENER added live high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) video streams to a VSAT network traditionally used to transmit data files. Artifact-free video was successfully decoded by the WEGENER SMD 515 IPTV set top box.

The new Viz Quattro from Vizrt will make its official debut at NAB 2008 (SL4805) in Las Vegas this April. Viz Quattro is an enabling feature that bridges the graphics and the video workflows. DEV’s latest distribution amplifiers, DEV 281x and DEV 285x, support the high performance requirements of frequency ranges which are, for instance, used in military applications. The devices are optionally available with a different operating voltage (-36 to -60V DC instead of AC).

Broadcast Pix today announced that the University of Oregon, School of Journalism and Communications, has installed a Broadcast Pix Slate 1000 switcher. System integrator Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) worked with Broadcast Pix and the University to set up the Slate 1000 in the school’s television studio at the Chambers Electronic Media Center. That is where students enrolled in the Electronic Media program attend production classes and produce a daily five minute newscast as well as a weekly live half hour news program called, “Oregon News.” The live newscast airs locally on area cable systems.
