Utah Scientific today announced that Max Media has expanded its innovative HD centralcasting system based on a UTAH-400 routing switcher and UTAH MC-400 master control switcher to cover 12 Fox and ABC stations serving six Montana markets. The system, one of the largest anywhere based on Utah Scientific equipment, is located in Missoula.

Broadcast Communications
Orders in the fourth quarter were $127 million, up sequentially by 18 percent compared with $108 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2009. Orders were down 29 percent compared with $179 million in the prior-year quarter.
Fourth quarter revenue in the Broadcast Communications segment was $130 million, a 25 percent decline compared with $174 million in the prior-year quarter, but was about flat compared with $132 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2009. Operating loss in the fourth quarter was $257 million. Non-GAAP operating loss was $2 million and excludes the $256 million non-cash, pre-tax charge for impairment of goodwill and intangible assets, but includes $8 million in charges for cost-reduction actions. Operating income was $8 million in the prior-year quarter and $2 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2009.

Linear Acoustic, announced that its advanced loudness management and monitoring technology is being used by QOOK TV, formerly MegaTV, an HD IPTV service provided by Korea Telecom, South Korea’s main telecom operator.
QOOK TV is using the Linear Acoustic AERO.air™ 10-channel transmission loudness manager with Dolby Digital (AC-3) encoding and the LAMBDA professional digital audio and metadata monitor with Dolby E/AC-3 decoding to correct loudness during its live and video-on-demand broadcasting services to South Korean audiences.

The Netherlands division of SBS/ ProSiebenSat.1 Group is upgrading its entire content playout platform to handle and distribute high-definition content with a new investment in a storage area network (SAN) based on Grass Valley K2 Summit server technology. The ongoing migration project will debut on air in Q4 2009.
